Winter

Whatever you choose to do here, in Châtel you'll find everything the perfect village resort has to offer. A lively village centre, perfectly preserved mountain architecture, skiing in the vast unspoiled spaces of the Portes du Soleil, with little side routes here and there that you can follow on foot, on snowshoes or on skis. The countryside is as magnificent as the old chalets in the valley. Here, the atmosphere is a tempting mixture of a tranquil way of life, friendliness and fun!

 Ski resort

Châtel is in the heart of the Franco-Swiss ski domain called the Portes du Soleil. The domain, one of the largest in Europe, covers 14 resorts:
8 French, including Avoriaz, Morzine, Montriond, les Gets , St Jean d’Aulps, Abondance and la Chapelle; and 6 Swiss: Champéry, Torgon, Morgins and les Crosets Val d’Illiez, Champoussin. In all it has over 400 miles of ski slopes, well-served by 208 ski-lifts all accessible using a single, inclusive card.
The Châtel ski domain itself offers a wide range of superb holidays and magnificent opportunities for skiing, both for those who come for the life and scenery on the mountain and those looking for that ultimate experience on the slopes!
Châtel consists of two main sectors: Barbossine / Super-Châtel and Linga / Pré-la-Joux, lying between 1100m and 2200m (3600 ft and 7200 ft).
The Châtel ski domain has 49 ski slopes : 5 black, 16 red, 15 blue and 13 green with a total length of 83 km (53 miles).
The inclusive Châtel ski pass is also valid for the Swiss resort of Torgon, the Corbeau section of the Swiss resort, Morgins, as well as the Braitaz section of La Chapelle d’Abondance. In all 130 km (80 miles) of superb, thrilling ski slopes!!
Facing full south in the Super-Châtel / Barbossine area, you will discover the snow park and area specially laid out for beginners.

Restaurants

After a day in the fresh air, you really appreciate a glass of wine by the fire, the wonderful smell of grilled meat and the melt-in-the-mouth local speciality cheeses.
An integral part of your holiday in the mountains, Châtel's bars and restaurants are a welcoming and friendly place to go, in warm surroundings. In Châtel, in the snow kingdom, children are kings.. Everything has been organised so that everyone in the family has a fabulous vacation.
Guides and ski instructors are more than happy to pass on to you their knowledge of the mountain, its history and forgotten legends, as well as their perpetual good humour to help make your holiday a memorable one.
Youngsters will discover a whole new world: a new language, new games, new friends...

 "P'tits Montagnys" area

 In the heart of the Resort, a snowfield has been prepared and made safe especially for children; models of comic book characters watch them play and share their secrets. The children build igloos, go tobogganing, take part in snow sculpture competitions, all in the kingdom of the P'tits Montagnys...
Parents can sit comfortably on nearby benches and discuss their children's' prowess!!! Free access.
New: The site is now equipped with a snow making machine .

The Mouflets crèche

A professional team welcomes your children aged 3 months to 6 years. Meals are prepared on site and numerous activities and games are proposed to children regarding their age. 4 sleeping rooms will welcome the youngsters for siesta.
The crèche is opened:
- in winter, 7 days a week, from 8 am to 7 pm
- in summer, Monday to Saturday, from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm
- Between seasons, Monday to Friday, from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm

The ski schools

The ski schools and the Village des Marmottons offer you a whole range of courses and lessons so that your children, even very young, can get to grips with all the fun of snowsports. Their service includes: discovering and beginners ski lessons, collective courses, moguls or free-ride skiing courses, snowboarding… A teaching of quality… well adapted structures… In one week children can make lightning progress! So, trust their know-how, with them your children will discover the shared happiness, in privileged conditions, in full safety…

 

Summer

While you are on holiday indulge yourself, playing, walking, laughing, watching your children flourish. The resort has grown, but remains careful to cherish the summer and offer you the very best that the mountains have to offer. With a huge range of facilities open to the public, it's the season to try out new things.

Children

In Châtel, the words "family resort" take on a new meaning:
sports facilities, entertainment, special equipment, keen prices...Châtel is a paradise for active family holidays.
A day nursery and a leisure centre, high teas on the farm, a roller-skating platform, MB circuits,  street shows, sack races, summer bob-sledding, village feast and fair days. The program is specially designed to give you the best ever holidays in the mountains.

 The Marmottons Village

Summer club for Children aged 3 to 12, open Monday to Friday, 9 to 5.30 p.m.
 
Mountain rambles, swimming and water games, tennis, and trampolining.

Themed weeks (circus, western, lake and mountains,etc.) and supervised play (painting, music, arts and crafts workshop). 

The Mouflets crèche

Daycare centre in the village centre above the nursery school, in La Maison Châtellane.
Open to children aged from 3 months to 6 years, from Monday to Friday, 8.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Lunch is available at the centre.
Indoor and outdoor games: early learning and sleep time, picnic organized once a week.
Child care available by the hour, half day and full day.

Châtel swimming pool

The swimming pool is in the village centre and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed in poor weather). The lifesavers give swimming and aquagym lessons.
 

Fishing in Vonnes lake :
Off the banks of the Dranse, a beautiful river running along the bottom of the valley, and from the shores of the magnificent Lake Vonnes, you can fish peacefully letting the time drift gently by. Fishing card available on site; open every day from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. from the 8th of May to the 8th of October.

Pedal boats

Take place on one of the pedal boats at Lake Vonnes for an unusual cruising!
A little tour, well conceived, showing up the spells of this lake, nestling in the heart of the mountain, at the Swiss boarder, between Châtel and Morgins.
With the current, you’ll discover a real invitation to relaxation of holidays and let you guide by the softness of the waves, melting in perfect harmony with the preserved nature. You can hire a pedal boat from the restaurant Abreuvoir, opposite the lake

Canyoning

Roping down including a waterfall section; a descent of up to 1000 ft taking up to four hours.

Hydrospeed or white water swimming

A sport where you slide through the water, with an ever-changing sensation of power and speed.
 

Canoeing

Explore the river in a two-man canoe. A pleasant descent for a wonderful shared experience.

Pré-la-Joux bobsleigh run

Set among the spruce trees at Pré-la-Joux, the fun starts as soon as you begin the ascent in the built-in lift. After passing through the woods you reach the steep section leading to the top, from where there is a panoramic view. Then it's thrills guaranteed as you whizz down the 650 metres of the run with 7 bends at an average speed of 7 m/s. Children under 1 m 25/4 ft 1 must be accompanied by an adult.
 

Devalkart

Situated on the Rubis piste in Pré-la-Joux, we have 20 unpowered karts for anyone who would like to try out a new sports and leisure activity.
Another great way to have fun on your mountain holiday!
You come down the piste at whatever speed you like and go back up again by hooking the devalkart to the ski tow pole.

Rollherbe

The fast way down the mountain!!! A hilarious and fun way to come down the Covagny piste, on an 'all-terrain' scooter…
The ski tow will take you back up to the top.

The Fantasticable

An unbelievable sensation! There's nothing faster! A vertiginous drop! The only ride of its kind in the world!!!
Comfortably positioned in a harness, you fly along at almost 100 km/h (60 mph) at up to 240 m above the hamlet of Plaine-Dranse.
From the air the countryside looks completely different!!!

Themed circuits
For all who love nature and exercise, these tracks are of varying levels, and take you to visit 14 villages and a number of extraordinary sites in France and Switzerland.
State registered instructors take groups out on theme circuits on the Châtel and Portes du Soleil domains every day; both beginners' and advanced training sessions.

Châtel bike park is situated at Pré-la-joux. Accessible by Pierre-Longue and Rochassons chair lifts, it consists of 13 trails of all levels of difficulty (including 12 downhill courses) and one "Cross park".
